Amsterdam Schiphol airport security false alarm caused by a hijack warning sent out in error

A crew member on board Madrid flight accidentally sent out a hijack alert, according to the airline Air Europa. “A warning that launches protocols on hijackings at the airport” was triggered “by mistake,” Air Europa tweeted. “Nothing has happened, all passengers are waiting to fly soon. We are sorry.” Two piers of the airport and the railway station were evacuated, according to The Guardian, a british news and media website. A police special operations team was dispatched and two trauma helicopters were sent to the airport, The Guardian said. Numerous ambulances arrived at the airport at various times, according to reporters on the scene on social media.

French police clear Paris ring road camps

Students studying in Paris may have noticed that the camps that greeted them when arriving from the airport have been removed. French police evacuated about 1,600 migrants from two camps in north Paris on Nov. 7, according to British Broadcasting Corporation, a British public service broadcaster. The evacuation was one of the biggest clearance operations in years, according to the BBC. About 600 police officers escorted the migrants, mainly from Afghanistan and Sub-saharan Africa, to coaches to take them to reception centres in the Paris area. The move took place around 6:00 on the day after the government unveiled a series of measures to curb immigration.

Spanish protest demand change on sexual abuse law

Feminist organizations protested across Spain last Monday to demand the penal code be changed after Barcelona’s High Court cleared five men of gang-raping a teenage girl, according to Euronews, a European news network. The court ruled the girl was “drunk and could not “agree to or oppose” intercourse,” according to Euronews. Barelona’s High Court sentenced the men to 10 to 12 years in jail after finding them guilty of the lesser charge of sexual abuse, according to Euronews. A Change.org petition addressed to the Ministry of Justice, Supreme Court, and Senate demanding the penal code be changed so that rape is defined as “a sexual relationship without consent” has gathered more than 300,000 signatures in three days, according to Euronews.
